ABOUT DR. LAMONT

As one of the nation’s most acclaimed leaders in Optometry, Dr. Lamont T. Bunyon, OD (a.k.a. Dr. Lamont) is an award-winning optometrist, who is also a nationally recognized author, speaker, and consultant. In addition, he is a sought-after private practice and optometry business expert regarding launching and growing an optometry clinic and optical shop. He is an OPTOPRENEUR and a leading thinker in the area of community optometry care. Dr. Lamont consistently meets with doctors one on one and in groups, traveling the country to instruct and provide private practice advice to those in need.

I am now in my 20th year of practice. I graduated from the New England College of Optometry as an award-winning student and leader, serving on the New England College of Optometry Board of Trustees, the Massachusetts Optometry Society Board and Student President while at the college. I have served as a leader in the optometry profession as President of the Central Maryland Optometric Society, First Vice President of The Maryland Optometric Association, Secretary of the National Optometric Association, Treasurer of the National Optometric Association and Founder of the Four Brown Eyes social media group, the largest online community of Black Optometrists and Students. I have been recognized as a top doctor winning the Maryland Optometrist of the Year and being a Doctor Leader and Speaker with corporate groups such as IDOC, Vision Source and Transitions Optical. I have built a private practice cold and now 14 years later have a business model that has earned millions of dollars and serves the community with several free community charity works. I am a proud father to two sons, Micah and Madden and husband to the wonderful Dr. Mesheca. I have faithfully served over 50,000 people in my community in Greater Washington, DC and Prince Georges County, Maryland where I am known for professional vision care with a personal touch. I envision my business in 3 years helping 100 optometrists successfully launch their optometry business while having time for their family and community

Let me share the other part of my story, the realest part of my story, the story that kept me up at night and pushed me and pushes me to work harder. My first practice failed. I lost just about everything due to theft one week after I opened my doors for the grand opening. I repeat, I lost just about everything and I felt I was a failure. A week later we re-opened and… we were robbed yet again and this time nothing was left. I still remember the broken glass window hole into my first practice, the stench of finger print dust all over my brand new office, detectives all over the place, the feel of walking on broken glass everywhere, the missing eyeglasses and lost equipment. I had saved all my personal savings to buy it all-now it was all gone. I had to close my doors and end my dream. I had to rebuild and go from ENTRENEPREUR to EMPLOYEE again. I had to explain to my wife and family that all was LOST and I did not know what to do. I went from best time of my life to worst time of my life and BROKE in less than two weeks. This was a nightmare and I did not know WHAT to do next.

Here is the good news: I reopened in a new location 6 months later, scaled back, worked part time jobs to support the new office and did not pay myself for two years to slowly build my practice back and my dream back. That was 14 years ago and for past 12 years I now have the practice of my dreams. I have free time to volunteer mentoring and coaching young people and run a private practice that is a thriving in the market. Now I want to share HOW and WHY and WHAT to do with other optometrists and motivate them to succeed financially and leave a legacy.
